A unique country which managed to keep its traditions and rural architecture being a part of modern Europe with all the advantages of developed science is Portugal. It seems like time stopped there to admire its beautiful nature. Country situates in Southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula, which it shares with Spain. Portuguese is the official language here, nevertheless the second official language, used in some parts of the country is Mirandese. Portugal borders Spain on the Iberian Peninsula and Atlantic Ocean by both west and south coast. Country is considered to be the traveler’s paradise due to sunny climate, extensive and unusual coastline and fascinating little towns. The capital of Portugal is Lisbon.

Autumn and spring are really the best seasons to visit Portugal. Winter begins in November or December and lasts to February or March. Especially in the north and central regions, including Lisbon, the winter is rainy and chilly. The weather usually stays warm from May to September.
Being one of the warmest countries in Europe, Portugal has hot and dry summers. As any other country, Portugal has its own traditions. It is customary to tip up to 15 percent in eateries and up to 10 percent in taxi. People dress casually here. Smoking is prohibited in cinemas, theatres and buses, but allowed after meals in restaurant.

There is multitude of ways to reach Portugal. If one prefers travelling by road – border posts between Spain and Portugal are always open nowadays.

A lot of international airlines such as British Airways, GB Airways and Monarch Airlines, Easyjet, bmibaby, Jet 2, MyTravelLite, Flybe, Flyglobespan and SATA provide services for those, who prefer air travel. Lisbon International Airport is the biggest airport, located at about 4.5 miles north of the city. Two main airlines, operating flights from Europe are Portugalia Airlines (NI) and the national airline of Portugal is TAP Air Portugal (TP). The last one offers flights to such destinations as Faro, Lisbon and Porto from such countries as France, Spain, Canada, the UK and USA.
